Luminary Project

“To raise money and awareness for victims of domestic violence.”

Each year, Sigma Chi co-sponsors the Luminary Project with Alpha Chi Omega. In 2008, we raised over $600 to donate to Turning Point in Bethlehem, PA. Turning Point provides services to victims of domestic violence.

Their agency has grown from a group of formerly battered women answering a hotline number in their homes, to a non-profit agency serving victims of domestic violence and their children in Lehigh and Northampton Counties, Pennsylvania. During their 25-year history, they have served over 60,000 victims.

Sigma Chi's role is to sell Luminary kits to each of the Greek houses on The Hill. These include a white bag with a candle sitting in a layer of sand on the bottom. Once the bags are purchased, on November 11th, each house lights the candles and displays them around their respective house. Everyone who walks or drives around the hill that evening will be encouraged to help participate in helping these victims.
